Why Us
California has no official statewide forms for adult adoption, and some counties publish their own packet. The court's self-help site lists the documents; we prepare the ones you direct.
Questions
The court says there are no official statewide court forms. It lists the documents: an adoption agreement signed by both people, a petition for approval of the adoption agreement, consent of spouses if applicable, and an order of adoption. We prepare them at your direction.
The court says the adopter's and the adult's spouses or domestic partners must consent. The adult's birth parents and adult children do not need to consent. We prepare consent forms for the people you identify.
The court says the adopter must be older than the adult being adopted, the adult must be 18 or older, and with exceptions, one cannot adopt more than one unrelated adult. We cannot decide whether you qualify. We prepare the documents you direct.
The clerk sets the hearing once the documents are signed and filed. The judge asks questions to confirm everyone understands and agrees. The court says no investigation is required unless the judge asks.
The court says the adult adoption petition is filed in the county where either the adopter or the adult lives. Some counties publish their own adult adoption packets, so check your court's website for local requirements.
