Why Us
A codicil changes only what you name and must be signed like a will. We write your specific changes into the document and return it for your review.
Questions
A codicil is a document that changes part of an existing will. It must be signed the way a will is, so California's rules about writing, signature, and two witnesses present at the same time apply. We prepare it from the changes you specify.
People do prepare their own. Write Legal prepares documents at your specific direction and cannot give legal advice about whether a codicil or a new will fits your situation. You decide which to prepare.
California law does not require a notary for a will, and the same signing rules apply to a codicil. The signing needs two witnesses present at the same time.
We cannot advise on that. Some people direct us to prepare a codicil, and others a new will. If your changes are large or the will is old, you may want to ask an attorney which approach fits. We prepare what you direct.
We cannot advise on conflicts or interpretation. You review the finished codicil against your existing will before you sign.
